Pledges and Payments
A Pledge is a commitment to give that has been captured but not yet fully paid. DonorPoint tracks the pledge amount, payment schedule, and collected payments, and can process payments against pledges automatically or with staff action.
Creating a Pledge
Pledges are created when a donor selects a payment method of type Payroll Deduction, Bill Me, or other deferred payment option on a form. A Pledge transaction is recorded immediately; payment transactions are recorded as they are collected.
Staff can also create pledges manually from the Transactions list or a Contact record.
Applying a Payment to a Pledge
To apply a payment against an existing pledge:
- Open the pledge transaction
- Click Add Payment in the right-hand sidebar
- Select the payment method, enter the amount, and save
The payment is recorded as a separate Payment transaction linked to the original pledge.
Voids
A void cancels a transaction that has been authorized but not yet settled by the payment processor. Voids are only available within the settlement window (typically same-day).
To void: open the transaction and click Void in the right-hand sidebar. A Void transaction is created and linked to the original.
Refunds
A refund returns funds to the donor after a transaction has settled.
To refund: open the transaction and click Refund in the right-hand sidebar. Enter the refund amount (partial refunds are supported) and confirm. A Refund transaction is created and linked to the original.
Payroll Processing
For workplace campaigns using payroll deduction, employer payroll remittances are entered as Payment transactions against the employee’s pledge. See Workplace Campaigns for the payroll workflow.
