Distribution Lists
A distribution list is any segment used as the recipient list for a mass email. DonorPoint supports several types of contact lists for email distribution.
List Types
Campaign Contact Lists — all contacts who have transacted on a specific form. Automatically updated as new transactions come in.
Event Contact Lists — all registrants for a specific event.
Auction Contact Lists — all bidders in a specific auction.
Volunteer Contact Lists — all volunteers for a specific program.
Purchase Order Contact Lists — contacts matching transaction criteria.
Giving Society Contact Lists — contacts who hold a recognition record in a specific Giving Society for a given year or lifetime. Optionally filter by society, recognition year, lifetime flag, and recognition type.
Giving Status Contact Lists — contacts matching a set of giving status criteria. Filter by one or more giving statuses (Active, Lapsed, New, etc.), minimum gift count, minimum lifetime giving, minimum last gift amount, and years without a gift for SYBUNT targeting.
General Segments — any static, dynamic, or compound segment. See Segments.
Creating a Distribution List
Most list types are created automatically when the associated entity (campaign, event, etc.) is created. General segments can be assigned directly as distribution lists.
Bulk Suppression
The Bulk Suppression feature allows you to add a group of email addresses to the suppression list at once — useful when importing a pre-existing opt-out list or after an external campaign.
To add bulk suppressions:
- Navigate to Email → Bulk Suppression
- Paste or upload the list of addresses
- Save — those addresses are excluded from all future mass email sends
Email Unsubscribe
Every mass email should include an unsubscribe mechanism. Use the standard unsubscribe merge tag to insert a link. When a contact unsubscribes, they are added to the account’s suppression list automatically.
