Application Chrome

The application chrome is the persistent UI surrounding the content area on every page — the top navigation bar and the left sidebar.

Top Navigation Bar

The top bar appears on every admin page and contains:

Element Location Function
DonorPoint logo / account name Left Links to the account home page; displays the current account name
Breadcrumb trail Center-left Shows the navigation path (e.g., Home > Contacts > Jane Smith). Click any crumb to navigate back.
Global constituent search Center Searches all Contacts and Organizations. See below.
Help Right Links to the DonorPoint documentation site
User dropdown Right Account switcher, My Profile, Logout. See below.

The top navigation bar includes a suggestion box (autocomplete) that searches Contacts and Organizations simultaneously across your account.

How it works:

  • Type 2 or more characters — the search fires automatically
  • Results show name, organization, and email for disambiguation
  • Click a result to navigate directly to that contact’s or organization’s edit page
  • Searches across first name, last name, email, and organization name
  • Only active (non-deleted, non-archived) records are returned

User Dropdown

Clicking your display name in the top right opens a dropdown with:

  • Account name — visual confirmation of your active account
  • Switch Account — if you have access to multiple accounts, lists all accounts you can access; clicking one switches your active context
  • My Profile — opens your UserAccount edit page
  • Logout — logs you out and redirects to the login page

Session timeout: For PCI-DSS compliance, admin sessions automatically expire after 5 minutes of inactivity. You will see an idle warning before expiry.

The sidebar contains all main navigation links, organized into logical groups. Items you can’t access based on your permissions are automatically hidden. Each top-level item can expand to show sub-items via a dropdown chevron.

The current navigation groups are:

Group Sections
Getting Started Introduction, Site Configuration, User Management
Admin Application Guide Chrome, List Views, Edit Views
Constituent CRM Contacts, Organizations, CRM, Segments, Transactions
Workplace Campaigns Workplace Campaigns, Community Fundraisers
Online Giving Forms, Items, Giving, Catalog
Email & Marketing Email, Merge Tags, Autoresponders
Volunteering Volunteer Programs
Donor & Volunteer Portal Donor Portal (all 6 tabs)
Designations & Payouts Payment Processing, Payout Engine
Reporting & Analytics Reports, Dashboards
Customization & Configuration Custom Fields, EL Reference, Content Editors
Integrations Scripting, Event Handlers, Workflows, API
Administration Users, SSO, Audit Trail

The sidebar nav is driven by section landing pages (00main.md files). Adding a new 00main.md to a numbered directory makes a new section appear automatically.
